Prologue

The question underneath the question

The Person

Human king, son of man, son in covenant

  1. 01The Human KingRambam’s Moshiach is a halachic figure with a legal test: Torah, kingship, Mikdash, ingathering. No miracle is required to identify him, and none is sufficient.
  2. 02Son of ManBen adam is an anthropological term, not a title. Moshiach is mortal, embodied, historical and Davidic — and the redemption depends on it.
  3. 03Son of G-dTehillim 2 and Shmuel II 7 call the Davidic king a son of G-d. In Jewish usage this is royal and covenantal language: election, inheritance, intimacy, obedience. It is not incarnation.

The Soul

Yechidah, bittul, and the spirit that rests

  1. 05YechidahNefesh, ruach, neshamah, chayah, yechidah. The first four are levels. The fifth is not a level — it is the indivisible point from which the others are differentiations.

Kingship

Malchus, authority, and the counterfeit

  1. 07David and MalchusThe shepherd, the pursued, the psalmist, the king. David is the pattern for Moshiach not because he was powerful but because of where his power came from.
  2. 08The Anointed OneMashiach means anointed. Oil is the tradition’s image for the hidden essence that rises above everything and permeates everything it touches.
  3. 21Malchus: The Last SefirahThe tenth sefirah has nothing of its own, receives from all the others, and is the only one in which anything becomes public. Speech, kingship, and the point where truth turns into a society.
  4. 22Kingship Without EgoA political theology. Hierarchy purified by bittul, authority as circulation rather than accumulation, and why the Torah’s king is hedged by law.
  5. 24Judgement Beyond SurfacesYeshayahu 11:3–4. A judicial faculty that reads the situation rather than the presentation, and a justice measured by what happens to the powerless.

Torah

Transmission, interiority, and knowing

History, grief, concealment, arc

  1. 14The Wounded RedeemerSanhedrin 98 places Moshiach among the afflicted at the gates of Rome, binding and unbinding his wounds one at a time. Readiness, not romanticised suffering.
  2. 15The Bird’s NestThe Zoharic palace of the bird’s nest — concealment as gestation. Symbolic and mystical language, not geography and not a calendar.
  3. 16Rachel WeepsYirmiyahu 31. A mother buried on a road rather than in a tomb, so that she would be there when they passed. The answer is not consolation but return.
  4. 17Adam, David, MoshiachA conceptual arc across three figures — wholeness before fracture, kingship inside history, and wholeness that has been through something.

The Dwelling

Matter, building, city, home

Shema, the eighth, and One
