Everything in this site has been an argument that the purpose of the whole structure is located at the bottom of it. If that argument is correct, it has to cash out somewhere concrete, and the place it cashes out is unglamorous.
A blessing over food
The mechanism is small enough to be missed. Before eating, a sentence is said that identifies where the food came from. Nothing about the food changes. What changes is that the act is performed by someone who has just stated, out loud, that the thing in front of them is not self-originating.
That is bittul at domestic scale, and it is the entire theology of chapter ten performed in four seconds over an apple.
Money
Tzedakah has already appeared in the chapter on the body, and its ordinariness is the point. It requires no spiritual state. A person in a bad mood who gives is not doing a lesser version; the coin does not know. This is one of the few areas of life where the outcome is genuinely independent of the giver’s interiority, which is precisely why the sources emphasise it.
Children, and hospitality
Teaching a child is the transmission chapter at the smallest workable scale — Torah moving from one generation to another across a kitchen table, which is where it has actually moved for most of its history.
Hospitality is the reversal of exile in miniature: someone who has nowhere to be is given somewhere to be. The Avrahamic paradigm is domestic, and the tradition ranks it startlingly high.
The cosmic does not get diluted here. It gets somewhere to happen.
Technology, and Shabbos
A phone is a tool for amplifying intention, which means it amplifies whatever intention is there — the subject of a later chapter. And Shabbos is the weekly demonstration that the six days are not the point: one day a week, the machinery stops and the world is received rather than worked.
None of this is a substitute for the historical redemption. It is what the historical redemption is for, practised in advance.
